DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES

Academic Assesment
Put children on the path to educational success by identifying your child’s areas of strength, special needs or areas for growth.  ^

 

 

ADD / ADHD
ADHD is a non-discriminatory disorder affecting people of every age, gender, IQ, and religious and socioeconomic background. Persons generally demonstrate significant problems with daily life in several major life areas (work, school, or friends), and have had the symptoms for a minimum of six months. Symptoms of ADHD are excessive, pervasive, and persistent. ^

 

 

Addictions
Do you ever feel guilty following heavy drinking/drug use? Do you drink or use drugs to help you unwind after work? Have you ever thought about cutting down on your alcohol/drug consumption? People often believe their alcohol/drug usage is under control until something bad happens, such as a DUI or hospitalization. ^

 

 

Adult Individual Therapy
Feeling like life is not going as you hoped? Talking with a trained professional can help put things in perspective.  ^

 

 

Anger Management
Is your temper raging out of control? Do small things set you off? Anger is a natural emotion, but out of control anger is destructive. It takes a toll on the individual and those around them.  ^

 

 

Anxiety / Fears / Phobias
Feelings of anxiety- feeling out of control, not being able to breathe, or being worried that you will never feel safe or calm again- can be overwhelming. Fear is one of the most basic human emotions. A fear can be healthy if it cautions a person to stay safe around something that could be dangerous. But sometimes a fear is unnecessary and causes more caution than the situation calls for. A phobia is an intense fear reaction to a particular thing or a situation. With a phobia, the fear is out of proportion to the potential danger. But to the person with the phobia, the danger feels real because the fear is so very strong.  ^

 

 

Bipolar
Bipolar disorders are one of several medical conditions called depressive disorders. Depressive disorders affect the way a person's brain functions. Symptoms show up differently in different people.  ^

 

 

Chemical Dependancy
If you want to break your addiction, the journey to recovery includes information, education, and self-awareness to put your life on track again. Working with your treatment program, APPS will help you focus on setting individual treatment goals to avoid relapse. ^

 

 

Child and Adolescent Individual Therapy

Chronic Pain
Chronic pain is pain that continues when it should not and adversely affects the individual's well-being.  APPS can help you understand if there is a connection between your physical pain and your emotional discomfort, and how to manage your pain so it no longer impedes your daily life. ^

 

 

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
This approach helps clients overcome their difficulties by changing their thinking, behavior, and emotional responses to difficult situations.  ^

 

 

Crisis Intervention
If you’re experiencing a crisis and feeling ‘out of balance’ or feeling that you may hurt yourself or others, APPS has a crisis line available 24/7 for you.  ^

 

 

Depression / Mood Disorders
Feelings of sadness and other symptoms that make it hard for us to get through the day, and last for more than a couple of weeks in a row. Clinical depression is not just grief or feeling sad. It is an illness that can challenge your ability to perform even routine daily activities.  ^

 

 

Eating Disorders
Eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating include extreme emotions, attitudes, and behaviors surrounding weight and food issues. Eating disorders are serious emotional and physical problems that can have life-threatening consequences for females and males. ^ 

 

 

EAP (Employee Assistance Program) Services
EAP Counseling services address significant life problems; Work/Life balance programs address the precious balance between work and life so that both are fulfilling and rewarding. ^

 

 

Female-Centered Therapy

Gambling Addiction
Whether you bet on sports, scratch-off lottery cards, roulette, poker, or slots- in a casino or
online- problem gambling can strain relationships, interfere with work, and lead to financial
catastrophe. You may think you can’t stop, but with the right help, you can overcome a
gambling problem and regain control of your life. ^

 

 

Grief / Loss / Death
The experience of loss cannot help but bring one’s emotional life closer to the surface. Grief counseling provides a needed framework to cope with the disorientation of loss, while at the same time helps individuals begin to regain their balance and search for new ways of being and creating personal meaning in the world.  ^

 

 

Health Issues
Battling disease, injury or recovery can have a significant impact on our feelings of independence, self-image, and our ability to be an active part of life with our friends, family and loved ones.  APPS can help you manage your illness and regain your positive outlook.  ^

 

 

Internal Religious Conflicts
Concerned about some of your life choices as related to your stated religion? Choosing between the religion of your family or a religion you feel more strongly drawn to? Talk with an APPS professional as you answer your questions to find a place of spiritual peace. ^

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive-compulsive disorder is an anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), or behaviors that make them feel driven to do something (compulsions). Often the person carries out the behaviors to get rid of the obsessive thoughts, but this only provides temporary relief. Not performing the obsessive rituals can cause great anxiety. ^ 

 

 

Postpartum Depression
Postpartum depression may appear to be the baby blues at first - but the signs and symptoms are more intense and longer lasting, eventually interfering with your ability to care for your baby and handle other daily tasks. If untreated, postpartum depression may last for a year or more. ^ 

 

 

PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder)
Post-traumatic stress disorder is a type of anxiety disorder. It can occur after you've seen or experienced a traumatic event that involved the threat of injury or death. ^ 

 

 

Sexual  Dysfunction
Sexual problems are defined as difficulty during any stage of the sexual act, which prevents the individual or couple from enjoying sexual activity. The causes of sexual difficulties can be physical, psychological, or both. ^ 

 

 

Stress Management
Managing stress is all about taking charge: of your thoughts, emotions, schedule, and the way you deal with problems. It’s not always easy, but if you don’t control your stress, it will continue to have control over you.  ^ 

 

 

Victims and Survivors of Abuse or Domestic Violence
Domestic abuse generally falls into one or more of the following categories: physical battering, sexual assault, or emotional/ psychological abuse. You don’t have to live this way. ^ 

 

 

Divorce
Divorce is a difficult time for the spouses and can be especially difficult for children who are involved.  Emotional support can help everyone through the pains of divorce, including self-image, custody decisions and the changing family landscape. ^ 

 

 

Geriatric Psychological Services: 

General population:
Delivered in a nursing home setting, APPS helps individuals to:
• Understand the behaviors and emotions that contribute to his or her illness
• Identify the life problems or events (i.e., a major illness, a death in the family, a loss of employment) that have brought on the current level of distress, and which aspects of those problems they may be able to solve or improve
• Assist residents/clients to regain a sense of control and joy in their life
• Assist residents/clients in learning coping techniques and problem-solving skills
• Decrease loneliness and depressive symptoms resulting from loss of control and age-related conditions
• Provide a trusting relationship in order to resolve unresolved life issues
• Achieve optimal residual skills and abilities
• Reduce psychological isolation that results from the trauma of separation from one’s previous independent and autonomous life.

Counseling for chronic mental health diagnoses
Delivered in a nursing home setting, APPS helps individuals living with mental illness to:
• Identify sources of stress
• Restructure priorities and emphasize positive, effective behavior
• Provide alternatives and methods for reducing and managing stress
• Learn behavioral strategies to obtain optimal living
• Provide a trusting relationship to relieve feelings of isolation and loneliness
• Regain confidence to re-engage positive, pro-social behaviors
• Help each client to become medically and behaviorally compliant
• Decrease intermittent agitation and behavioral outbursts by increasing coping skills

Assistance with compliance and monitoring
Thorough client files are maintained and updated after each session. APPS will collaborate with nursing home staff to facilitate documentation and services that adhere to best practices guidelines. APPS commits to:
• Provide documentation and services that support accreditation and state evaluation process
• Provide one-on-one services for residents that require monitoring and supervision documentation
• Monitor and supervise client behavior plans and documentation of progress
• Provide one-on-one service and assessment of risk behaviors with supporting documentation of progress and maintenance ^ 

 

 

Family Communication/ Stability
Consistent, healthy expectations, open communication and a supportive environment contribute to family stability. Talk with us about tips to strengthen your family’s communication and for help addressing areas where you feel communication and family cohesion can be improved.  ^ 

 

 

Family Therapy
Family therapy helps family members improve communication and resolve conflicts.  It is usually short-term and can involve all family members, or those most able to participate. ^ 

 

 

Marital / Couples Therapy
In a nurturing, judgment-free environment, explore emotional or physical challenges that may be inhibiting your successful relationship. Heal from the trauma of divorce and identify a support network. ^ 

 

 

Parenting
Parenting is a full-time job filled with joy, excitement, new beginnings, and many questions along the way.  ^ 

 

 

Gender Focused Support Groups
You are never alone and don’t have to face your challenges alone. Gender roles, assumptions and practices present unique perspectives and challenges in addressing stressors.  Gender-centered support groups are a place for people to give and receive emotional and practical support, and to exchange helpful information and resource. ^ 

 

 

School Support Groups   
In response to a crisis, such as the death of a student, teacher, or other school personnel; or in response to a community tragedy affecting the students and school personnel, support groups are a safe and nurturing intervention to begin the healing process.  ^
